The Rouletista story kicks off the narrative of the show. Kirill’s Art Direction presented each shot as a moment suspended in time to create an impression of a foreboding storybook fable. Hand-written notes from the pages of the Captain’s Log Book were incorporated to connect the animated sequence to the central themes of the show. The design style intended to evoke the emotional journey of the depressed protagonist. To achieve a discomforting and ominous tone, the characters were vaguely defined using sketchy linework, and a cold color palette was applied along with gritty textures.
